The North Haven baseball team had home game versus Sheehan and faced Notre Dame-West Haven on the road in last week’s matchups. The Indians defeated both Sheehan and the Green Knights to improve to 11-3 on the season.
On May 2, North Haven hosted Sheehan under the lights at DeMayo Ballfield and defeated the Titans 7-2. The game was tied 2-2 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, when the Indians pushed five runs across the plate to take a 7-2 lead. Senior Chris Ciarleglio earned the win on the mound by pitching six strong innings in which he allowed two runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out eight. Fellow senior Luca Lawrence tossed a scoreless seventh inning to close out the win.
Junior leadoff hitter Matt Solomon had a nice day at the dish by going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and a stolen base for North Haven. Senior Peyton Farina was 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs, two RBI, and a stolen base for North Haven. Kevin Lucey doubled with a run scored and an RBI; fellow senior Steven Erbe and Hunter Garthwait both singled and scored a run; and senior Nick Perillie and sophomore Dave Christoforo each had a base hit with an RBI.
Two days later, the Indians squared off with Notre Dame at Quigley Stadium and defeated the Green Knights 6-5. North Haven scored two in the first and two in the second, before Notre Dame plated five runs in the bottom of the second to go up 5-4. However, the Indians scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning to take a one-run lead. Garthwait doubled and scored on Farina’s double to tie the game, after which Solomon came home with the go-ahead run on Notre Dame error. Senior Zach Pincince started on the hill for North Haven, and Lawrence picked up the win by allowing just one run on three hits and two walks in 5.2 innings of relief.
Farina went 2-for-3 with a double, a run, and two RBI; Garthwait was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI; and Solomon singled, scored two runs, and drove in a run. Additionally, Erbe had a single with an RBI and a steal, Perillie singled and scored a run, sophomore Matt DeRosa hit a double, and Lucey singled twice for the Indians.
