North Haven split its two matchups last week to move to 8-3 on the season and earn a berth in the Class L State Tournament. The Indians took a 9-2 loss at Cheshire and then won 12-0 at Quinnipiac Division opponent Xavier to improve to 2-1 in the division.

North Haven took a 9-2 defeat at Cheshire on April 25. The Rams scored five runs in the first inning and went on to get the win. Sophomore Dave Christoforo hit a solo home run and also drove in the Indians’ other run on a double. Senior Peyton Farina singled, doubled, and stole a base; senior Steven Erbe singled and scored, and junior Gianni DeMartino drew a pair of walks. Junior Leo Konopka got the start on the mound for the Indians, who saw Chris Ciarlegio, fellow senior Nate Zalegowski, John Gontarek, and fellow junior Hunter Garthwait all pitch in relief.

Then on April 27, North Haven faced Xavier on the road in a divisional clash and routed the Falcons 12-0. Senior Kevin Lucey hit two home runs and had a single in the victory on his way to collecting five RBI. Christoforo went yard for the second straight game to go with a single, a walk, three runs, and three RBI. Erbe went 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs, and two RBI; Farina had four stolen bases, a pair of singles, three runs scored, and an RBI; junior Matt Solomon singled twice and scored a run; and sophomore Matt DeRosa had two base hits with a stolen base. Senior Zach Pincince earned the win on mound by pitching six scoreless innings, before the game was called due to the mercy rule.
